I Saw a Green Balloon…
I saw a green balloon today
It flew upon the ground,
And though there was much traffic there
It didn’t make a sound.I saw green balloon today
At first I thought how free,
And in the midst of Christmas craze
I longed to float and be.I saw a green balloon today
It made feel untrue,
I questioned where I was in life
And kinda sensed the blue.I saw a green balloon today
It sailed about the cars,
You’d think I’d chuckle or laugh a bit
Instead I thought of wars.I saw a green balloon today
And visions filled my brain,
Not nearly of sweet sugar plums
But refugees and pain.I saw a green balloon today
And didn’t mean to think,
Of heavy matters in the world
I wanted just to blink.I saw a green balloon today
It stopped me in my tracks,
And all the light and festive air
Just slipped on through the cracksI saw a green balloon today
And thought of poor lost souls,
The hope of Christmas in their hearts
Yet nothing in their bowls.I saw a green balloon today
It left me more perturbed,
A picture postcard of carefree
But I was left disturbed.peekiequeen poetry c. Th December 12, 2013
